Welcome to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Cumbernauld
The 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year C) invites us to reflect on the healing power of God, the importance of gratitude, and the faith that transforms lives.
In the first reading from 2 Kings 5:14–17, we hear the story of Naaman, a foreign military commander who is healed of leprosy. This reading reminds us that God often works through ordinary means, and that healing begins with trust and obedience.
The second reading from 2 Timothy 2:8–13 is a call to perseverance. Paul, writing from prison, urges believers to remain faithful to Christ, even in suffering.
In the Gospel reading from Luke 17:11–19, Jesus heals ten lepers, but only one—a Samaritan—returns to give thanks. Jesus praises this man’s faith, highlighting that gratitude is not just good manners, but a sign of spiritual insight.
This Sunday challenges us to examine our own response to God’s goodness. Do we take His blessings for granted, or do we return to Him with thankful hearts?

We, the parishioners of St. Joseph’s Cumbernauld, following the example of our Patron and Protector, believe that each member is called to ownership, discipleship, and evangelisation to our parish and local community.
The parish is a community of God’s people centered on the word of God and the Eucharist:
where all seek to be loving and caring, welcoming, forgiving, serving and healing;
where the poor can go for help, the lonely for company and the sorrowing for comfort;
where, with obedience to our own faith and respect for other faiths, we seek unity with all;
where, in a spirit of mission, we aim to promote God’s glory throughout the world;
where there is a passion for justice and peace;
where, as stewards of creation, we care and protect the environment locally and globally; and,
where Christ is the way and the truth and the life.
We do all of this as members of the Catholic community within the
Archdiocese of Glasgow and the universal Church.
