Welcome to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Cumbernauld
The Second Sunday of Advent calls us to prepare our hearts more deeply for Christ’s coming by embracing hope, repentance, and renewal.
The first reading from Isaiah gives a beautiful vision of the Messiah—the shoot from the stump of Jesse—who brings wisdom, justice, and a peace so complete that even creation is restored.
The second reading from St. Paul encourages us to live in harmony and perseverance, welcoming one another as Christ has welcomed us. Through Scripture, God gives us endurance and hope as we continue our Advent journey.
The Gospel introduces John the Baptist, who calls us to repentance and conversion. His cry—“Prepare the way of the Lord”—reminds us that readiness for Christ begins with a change of heart and a life that bears good fruit.
Today, as we enter the second week of Advent, we respond to Isaiah’s hope, Paul’s encouragement, and John’s call to repentance. We prepare not only for Christmas, but for Christ who comes to renew our hearts, restore peace, and lead us into the fullness of His kingdom.

We, the parishioners of St. Joseph’s Cumbernauld, following the example of our Patron and Protector, believe that each member is called to ownership, discipleship, and evangelisation to our parish and local community.
The parish is a community of God’s people centered on the word of God and the Eucharist:
where all seek to be loving and caring, welcoming, forgiving, serving and healing;
where the poor can go for help, the lonely for company and the sorrowing for comfort;
where, with obedience to our own faith and respect for other faiths, we seek unity with all;
where, in a spirit of mission, we aim to promote God’s glory throughout the world;
where there is a passion for justice and peace;
where, as stewards of creation, we care and protect the environment locally and globally; and,
where Christ is the way and the truth and the life.
We do all of this as members of the Catholic community within the
Archdiocese of Glasgow and the universal Church.
