Our Lady of Sorrows. Coming hard on the feast of the Exaltation of the Cross, this feast reminds us that Our Lady had to suffer so many sorrows in her life, having been warned by the holy old man Simeon when she presented her Son in the Temple, that one day a sword of sorrow would pierce her soul – something which she would undergo on seven separate occasions throughout her life.

Ss. Cosmas and Damian. From early writings, there is evidence that their tomb lies in Cyrrus in Syria where a basilica was built in their honour. Veneration spread from there to Rome, and thereafter throughout the worldwide church.
St. Vincent de Paul (1581-1660). Born in Gascony, France, he completed his studies and became a parish priest in Paris.
